Paranormal Activity 4

The fourth edition to the Paranormal Activity movies will hit theaters October 19th against Halloween 3D, which is scheduled to open October 26th. In both 2009 and 2010, Paranormal competed against the Saw series.

The Paranormal franchise has been hugely successful, with the last movie bringing in more than $200 million, beating out the grosses of the first and second film combined! In addition, Paranormal 3 become the top horror launch in history. However, the projects are made on very small budgets; Paranormal cost $15,000, Paranormal 2 cost $3 million, and Paranormal 3 cost only $5 million to produce.

Not much is known about the fourth installment — no writer or director has even been set.  So whatcha think?

Government Re-Opens!

After nearly three weeks, Govenor Mark Dayton has signed a series of budget bills just after 9 this morning that will re-open the government. His signature ends the longest government shutdown in American history (20 full days).

State workers have been called to return to work tomorrow, though officials say it will likely take weeks for government operations to return to normal while agencies make up the three weeks of missed work.

The governor made his feelings clear about the budget after signing the bills, saying it’s not what he wanted, but it puts people back to work and brings closure to a difficult three weeks for Minnesotans: “I’m not entirely happy with this budget, but it’s the best option available. The shutdown had to end.”

Dayton says he will continue telling voters that taxing the small percent of the wealthiest Minnesotans is the best way to balance the state’s budget.

As for state parks, they should be open tomorrow (July 21), if not already today. It would be the individual agencies’ responsibility to recall their workers and resume projects. Officials say it could be fairly quick for some, but for other services - such as construction sites - it could take weeks to resume.

A Department of Natural Resources spokesman said some parks would re-open for day use starting Friday, with overnight camping as early as Saturday. He said parks have been cleaned and checked to make sure they are safe, as some were damaged by the windstorm and vandals. New camping reservations won’t be possible until 8am Tuesday because pending refunds must first be cleared. Those with existing reservations should be able to camp if their park is fully open.

The closure of state services cost the state many millions of dollars.
