Every year I cover People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)’s negative impact on society and it’s that time again. The government records the number of animals killed by rescue shelters. PETA is known for its lawsuits, protests, and hypocritical beliefs as well as poor judgement of finances.
Documents obtained from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services by the Center for Consumer Freedom show that the organization killed 1,911 (95.9% of) animals in their care in 2011 while adopting out only 24 pets. Source: Page 1 | Page 2 | Page 3 | Page 4
“PETA hasn’t slowed down its slaughterhouse operation,” said Rick Berman, CFF’s Executive Director. “It appears PETA is more concerned with funding its media and advertising antics than finding suitable homes for these dogs and cats.”
The organization is often looked down upon by local animal shelters. Despite their $34 million budget, PETA doesn’t own, operate, or fund a single rescue shelter on the world, nor do they provide services which greatly benefit animals in communities.

In addition, the FBI is often on their case for their terrorist acts. According to the FBI, PETA is “one of the most serious domestic terrorism threats in the U.S. today.” In fact, the organization spends four times as much money on criminals and their own legal defense than on shelters, spray-neuter programs, and other efforts that help animals.
Other government documents show that the government has plans to reclassify PETA as an “euthanasia clinic” due to their high number of killings of healthy adoptable animals.
So what does PETA say about this? They never dispute their sky-high euthanasia rate, they actually admit to it, but rater insist that they are unable to find homes for their pets. They had no comment when the Daily Caller asked what sort of effort it routinely makes to find homes for adoptable animals. Dr. Patrick Proctor of the Ahoskie Animal Hospital compare’s 1.2 percent of animals that PETA adopts with other rescue shelters: “other animal societies in that area tend to find homes for 85, 75, or 65 percent of their animals.”
Documents from the Virginia Department of Agriculture show that the government is trying to reclassify People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) as an “euthanasia clinic” due to their high number of killings of healthy, adoptable animals compared to animal shelters in the area. The organization doesn’t own or operate a single rescue shelter in the world, nor do they provide services which greatly benefit animals in communities.
Since 1998, PETA has killed more than 25,840 animals, while adopting only 3,135, or 85.9%. Within the past few years, they have been known to murder 90-98% of animals in their care.
The organization has also been criticized for their funding. The organization spends less than one percent of it’s multi-million dollar budget on efforts that help animals, but rather:
One of the biggest criticism PETA faces is their funding of terrorist groups. The FBI even refers to PETA as “one of the most serious domestic terrorism threats in the U.S. today” because of their promotion, funding, and support of crime and terrorism.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is mostly known for sexualizing women and hypocritically murdering nearly 100% of healthy animals in their care annually (link). Well, the organization is now working on a pornography website.
The future site that “draws attention to the plight of animals” will be located at peta.xxx, according to PETA spokeswoman Lindsay Rajt. The .xxx domain is not yet secured, but trademark holders can begin to pay money to protect their brands starting September 7th.

I’m no animal freak; I hunt, I fish, but please do not support PETA or the Humane Society of the United States, as both organizations are incredibly misleading. The best alternative is to support local rescue shelters that actually care for animals, and always research them, rather than blindly supporting. Here are 55 other reasons to hate PETA.
I get asked about this a lot, so rather than explaining it to everyone, I’ll just link them to this post. Much easier! Note: I will also be linking my sources to each of these points in the near future.
Today the nonprofit Center for Consumer Freedom published documents online showing that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) killed a staggering 94% of the adoptable pets in its care during 2010.
Despite years of public outrage over its euthanasia program, the terrorist organization has actually increased the number of adoptable animals it kills at it’s Norfolk, VA headquarters to an average of 42 pets every week.
According to public records from the Virigina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, PETA killed 2,200 cats and dogs in 2010, while placing only 44 in homes. Since 1998, a total of 25,840 pets have been murdered at the hands of PETA workers.
“PETA hasn’t slowed down its hypocritical killing machine, even as the group continues to lecture the American public with its phony ‘animal rights’ message,” said Rick Berman, CCF’s Executive Director. “It appears PETA is more concerned with funding it’s media and advertising antics than finding suitable homes for these dogs and cats.”
In fact, PETA has been known to fund criminals and terrorist organizations which the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) classify as a “serious domestic terrorist threat.” In another example, PETA has paid $42,200 to a violent criminal for the multi-million dollar arson of Michigan State University. The organization spends four times as much money on criminals and their own legal defense than on shelters, spray-neuter programs, and other efforts that help animals.
PETA’s Vice President of Policy and Government Affairs Bruce Friedrich (who appears on the FBI’s terrorist list) has stated, “Of course we’re going to be, as a movement, blowing things up and smashing windows. I think it’s a great way to bring about animal liberation. I think it would be great if all of the fast-food outlets, slaughterhouses, these laboratories, and the banks that fund then exploded tomorrow. I think its perfectly appropriate for people to take bricks and toss them through the windows.”
Despite its $33 million budge, PETA does not own, operate, or fund a single rescue shelter in the world. PETA employees make little effort to find homes for the thousands of animals they kill every year.
“For the 12th year in a row, PETA’s leaders have shown they don’t care about the unlucky dogs and cats that come to its Norfolk facility,” Berman continued. “It’s about time PETA’s ‘shelter’ is reclassified as a slaughterhouse.”
CCF has obtained PETA’s legal government “Animal Record” filings for every year since 1998 from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Memebrs of the public can see these documents at PETA Kills Animals.com.
